Why RealChill rides

Why we ride Cadillac.

Before RealChill had a black truck, I had a grandfather who drove Cadillacs.

My grandfather, Tommie Gaither, was an OG in our city. People knew his name, his style, his story, and the ways he showed up in the community. His life had different chapters, and my memories of him carry more than any single one.

One thing I remember clearly is the Cadillac.

Growing up, I would see him switch from one Cadillac to another. Before I understood the history of the brand, I already associated it with him. His presence. His taste. The way he carried himself.

So when it was time for me to start driving again, I chose a black Cadillac Escalade. Looking back, that choice makes sense in a way I couldn’t fully explain at first. Something familiar was becoming part of my own next chapter.

Then I started learning more about Cadillac’s relationship with Black America.

Historical accounts describe affluent Black customers purchasing Cadillacs through white intermediaries when discriminatory sales practices blocked them from buying directly. In the early 1930s, Nicholas Dreystadt pushed General Motors to remove that restriction. Black purchasing power contributed to the brand’s recovery, alongside changes in production and the wider economy.

That history stayed with me.

There were people who could afford the car and still had to find a way around someone else’s judgment to own it.

My grandfather’s experiences brought that closer to home. He faced racial profiling connected to how he looked, how he dressed, and perceptions of his access to money. When I think about his Cadillacs now, I think about the tension between enjoying what you have earned or acquired and having other people decide what your appearance must mean.

I can’t speak for everything a Cadillac meant to him. I can tell you what those memories mean to me.

They make me think about presence, ownership, individuality, and the freedom to enjoy your life. They remind me how much history can sit inside something we see every day.

RealChill Rides is where I’m taking that connection next.

I’m building an experience around the vehicle, the people inside it, and what becomes possible when they come together.

An artist heading to a show. An entrepreneur between meetings. A family making a memory. A creator turning the backseat into the setting for their next idea. Someone who wants a good playlist, a real conversation, and a different view for a few hours.

With me, @yammifr, as your host and driver, the ride becomes part of the day you’re creating. There is room for conversation, content, laughter, quiet, and a little spontaneity.

The RealChill Cadillac Series carries my grandfather’s influence into something of my own: a business rooted in culture, creativity, connection, and the experience of being cared for along the way.

That black truck holds a family memory. Now it gets to hold new stories.

Book a RealChill ride for the day. Bring your story. Let’s take a chill side quest.
